Kitchen & Bath Renovation - 175 East 62nd Street
Smart Design. Maximum Impact. Zero Wasted Space.
When our clients at 175 East 62nd Street came to us, they had a clear vision: a kitchen that actually worked for the way they live and a bathroom that belonged in this decade. We transformed their cramped galley layout and dated finishes into something entirely different.
Working Smart Within NYC's DOB Framework
Here's something most Upper East Side homeowners don't realize: not every gut renovation requires full architect involvement and DOB filing fees. By carefully scoping the project within the allowable square footage thresholds set by NYC's Department of Buildings, we executed a full redesign without triggering mandatory architect sign-offs. That's not a workaround. That's knowing the code. For our clients, this translated directly into meaningful savings that went straight back into premium finishes and custom millwork.
The Kitchen: A Galley Reimagined
Instead of fighting the classic NYC galley layout, we leaned into it. Custom warm-white shaker cabinetry runs the full length of both walls, designed with intentional visual breathing room beneath the ceiling to keep the space open and airy.
The details that make it work:
Quartz countertops and matching marble-look backsplash
Brushed brass hardware paired with a farmhouse apron-front sink
Under-cabinet LED lighting for a bright, functional workspace
Bosch appliance suite, including a space-saving double wall oven, dishwasher, and integrated wine cooler
Flush induction cooktop, keeping clean lines and complying with NYC’s transition away from gas
The Breakfast Nook: Custom Built, Thoughtfully Designed
We transformed an underutilized corner into a personality-filled destination. A custom L-shaped banquette with integrated storage features rich chartreuse velvet seating around a walnut dining table. Above it, an aged-brass multi-globe pendant sets the mood. Opposite the nook, brass bar stools at the quartz peninsula offer casual counter seating that connects seamlessly to the living area.
The Bathroom: Minimal, Modern, Resolved
We approached the bathroom with clean lines and zero extraneous details. Large-format travertine-look tile provides natural warmth, contrasted by classic white subway tile inside the shower enclosure. A frameless sliding glass door with matte black hardware keeps the room feeling spacious. A wood-tone vanity with a poured concrete-look countertop completes this modern, grounded retreat.
The G-Project Design Approach
Every project starts by asking: What does this space actually need to do? At 175 East 62nd Street, we delivered a kitchen built for real entertaining, a vibrant breakfast nook, and a proper bathroom retreat—all on budget and within the DOB framework. If you want a Designer that knows how to navigate New York's building regulations while delivering uncompromised design, let's talk.
